Mark Chapman was born on 27th June 1994 in Hong Kong. He is currently aged 28 years. Chapman previously featured for Hong Kong in International cricket and then switched his base to New Zealand since his father’s native belonged to Auckland. Chapman was born to Peter Chapman and Anne Chapman. His father Peter has roots in New Zealand whereas his mother Anne is based in Hong Kong. Peter was a crown prosecutor for the Government of Hong Kong whereas his mother worked in the financial sector.
Chapman was born in Hong Kong but moved to Auckland along with his family in his childhood. He developed a deep interest in cricket at a very young age and started to play professional cricket for local teams. Chapman graduated from the King’s College in Auckland. He played for the Hong Kong under-19 team at the 2010 Under-19 World Cup at the tender age of 15.

Chapman had reportedly sustained a grievous ligament injury while playing Rugby in his childhood but he did not let it affect his cricketing career.
Chapman made his international debut for Hong Kong on 16th March 2014 in ICC T20 World Cup against Nepal which was Hong Kong’s first International appearance in a major ICC Tournament. He was also a part of the Asian Games 2014 where he ended the tournament as the top scorer for Hong Kong.
Interestingly, Chapman smashed a monumental century on his ODI debut in 2015 against the United Arab Emirates. On his ODI debut, he scored an unbeaten 124 off 116 balls & became the first Hong Kong player to score an ODI ton. He also became the first associate nation player to score a ton on their ODI debut to at a strike rate of more than 100.00. Notably, Chapman had flown over 20 hours to feature in the match due to his exams in New Zealand. On the back of his gleaming knocks, Chapman was announced as the vice-captain of the Hong Kong team for the ICC World T20 2016 & Asia Cup Qualifier 2016.

Notably, Mark Chapman rose through the ranks after his flamboyant performance in the recently concluded T-20I series against Pakistan. Chapman scored 290 runs in five matches and emerged as the highest run-scorer in the series. In the final T-20I, Chapman rescued New Zealand from 26/3 and piloted the run-chase by scoring an unbeaten knock of 104 runs in 57 runs. Due to his astounding efforts, New Zealand was able to tie the series 2-2.
Chapman has also been named in New Zealand’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan. Since skipper Kane Williamson is injured, New Zealand Head Coach Gary Stead has mentioned that Chapam is an ideal replacement for Kane for the approaching ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
