Indian Premier League is one of the most followed cricket leagues in World Cricket. Right from its inception in 2008 to its ongoing 16th edition, IPL has managed to get viewers hook to their TV sets, thanks to its dramatic run chases. The major highlight of IPL is batters over-the-top performance with the willow which helps their side to register glorious wins. Though T20 cricket is known as batters game it’s difficult for batters to score runs at a brisk rate. The same is the case in Indian Premier League where batters try to prove their prowess by achieving major feats in fewer balls. One such feat which batters try to accomplish is registering the fastest 100 in IPL. The challenge is not scoring a ton but scoring it in less number of balls. Most of the batters have managed to achieve this remarkable feat.
So without wasting time let’s have a look at the top 5 Players who have managed to score the fastest 100 in IPL from 2008-2023:
Universe Boss, Chris Gayle sits top on the list of fastest 100 in IPL history. The West Indian batter has achieved this feat in 2013 playing for Bangalore against Pune Warriors. He managed to score 100 in just 30 balls becoming the first player to register the fastest century in IPL. He played a blistering knock of 175 runs in 66 balls in an innings laced with 17 sixes & 13 fours. It was Gayle’s efforts that helped RCB to post 263-5 in 20 overs. In reply, Pune could score 133-9, losing the fixture by 130 runs. By registering a ton in 30 balls Gayle has scripted a record that can’t be broken by any batter to date.
2. Yusuf Pathan:
Yusuf Pathan is the second & India’s first player to register the fastest 100 in IPL. He achieved the feat in only 37 balls in their fixture against Mumbai Indians in 2010. Notably Yusuf Pathan’s 100 in 37 balls was the fastest century in IPL during the 2010 edition. Rajasthan Royals were chasing a huge target of 213 runs & it was Yusuf’s efforts that guided them near victory. However, once he got dismissed there was no comeback for Rajasthan who lost the fixture by 4 runs against KKR. Yusuf’s heroics helped him to win the Player of the Match Award.
3. David Miller:
The player who managed to grab third place in the list of fastest 100 in IPL is David Miller. He took just 38 balls to register a century against RCB. His century came as a boon for Punjab in their chase of 191 runs. He came to the crease to lift Punjab from a dire situation of 64-4. And then there was no stopping for Miller who smashed eight fours & seven sixes guiding Punjab towards a win with two overs to spare. Though Miller now plays for Gujarat Titans, his heroics with the willow are still cherished in the history of IPL.
