Rohit Sharma believes that scoring consistent runs in the Indian team will give Shubhman Gill lots of confidence which will help him in strengthening his place in the national team.
Indian Cricket team vice-captain Rohit Sharma on Thursday appreciated youngster Shubhman Gill and regarded him as the future star of the Indian cricket team. The 20-year-old batsman was selected for the New Zealand tour where he featured in two ODIs. According to Rohit, the right-handed batsman has lots of potential to establish himself as a well-trained batsman for the national team.
“I think Shubhman Gill is a consistent and fluent batsman. He is the future of Indian Cricket Team. Whenever he gets consistency in scoring runs he will get confidence. He has a good domestic record and if we work towards improving his skills then we should look to bring him into the side. There is a lot of competition in the side,” Rohit said during a live interaction session on Instagram with bowler Harbhajan Singh.
Harbhajan also agreed with Shubhman Gill and stated that he should have been selected in the test series against New Zealand in the absence of injured Rohit Sharma. “We lost in new Zealand. Prithvi Shaw made a comeback. He was out of the side, but you guys backed him. I think someone like Shubhman Gill should have been given a chance to perform in the New Zealand Test series. If Rohit was injured, I think Shubhman Gill should have played because he was there in the Indian team squad”, said Harbhajan Singh Urff Bhajji!
The former spinner Bhajji praised middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul who have been performing well for the team after getting regular opportunities from the team management.
“Shreyas Iyer played two matches but then he was dropped when given regular chances and the result of the same are there in front of us. It is good to see someone being given regular chances in the national side. Shreyas was the player of the New Zealand tour for me and KL also batted beautifully, apart from Virat and Rohit. KL Rahul is the strongest contender of being the match-winner”, said Harbhajan Singh.
