England announced Women’s A squad for the T20 series against Australia A & there comes a call-up for Alice Capsey who has been waiting for her Test debut. While the squad will also see the return of Freya Kemp who will make a comeback from injury. Notably, Caysep & her teammate Alice Davidson Richards who made her Test debut against South Africa at Taunton in 2022 has been excluded from England’s Test squad for Ashes 2o23 opener Test at Trent Bridge on 22nd June as they selected Richards for Wednesday’s T20 series at Loughborough.
Meanwhile, Kemp who returned from England’s tour of the West Indies in December 2022 due to a back stress fracture. She returned in a batting only role for Southern Vipers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup earlier in June. Kemp made her International debut during the Summer 2022 & soon made her mark against India by becoming the youngest England player to score a half dentury in T20I. She also received the Women’s Player of the Year award by both the PCA and the Cricket Writers’ Club, and was awarded an England central contract.
Davidson Richardson played for England A team in the red ball warm clash against Australia which ended in a draw. It was Lauren Winfield Hill & Paige Scholfield centuries which helped England A to reach 562 runs total in their first innings after dismissing Australia for 284 runs in their first innings. A 17 year old young all-rounder, Mahika Gaur who has played for UAE at the U19 level & also plays regional cricket for Thunder team has trained with the senior England team during their preparatory camps earlie rin June & was also selected for England A team alongside Bryony Smith of South East Stars and Southern Vipers’ Linsey Smith.
The England A squad will face Australia A in three T20Is from June 21 to June 25 followed by three 50 over matches from June 28 to July 2.
