Bangladesh Women on Wednesday announced 16 member squad for the Sri Lanka tour & there comes a major twist as the board has rested two senior cricketers- Salma Khatun & Rumana Ahmed from the announced squad.
Pacer Marufa Akter who was a part of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 held in South Africa too wasn’t named in the announced squad as she will be appearing for her SSC examination later in April. Sanjida Akther Maghla, Fariha Islam Trishna, Rabiya & uncapped Sultana Khatun have been selected for the Sri Lanka series.
“We have rested Salma and Rumana as per the plan of the head coach ( Hashan Tillakaratne) because he feels there is a lot of cricket and we need to focus on managing their workload,” Monjurul Islam, BCB’s women’s team selector, told Cricbuzz on Tuesday. “We have a lot of games at home and away and so we want to make a plan so that we can get the best out of the seniors,” he said.
Speaking about Sultana’s selection Monjurul said that they are excited to have Sultana in the squad. They were quite clear to have an astonishing batter for the No 6 or 7 spot who can fill in Salma Khatun’s shoes in the long run. And Sultana according to them is the best candidate to replace Salma Khatun in the near future.
Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka will commence from ODI Series
Coming to the Series, Bangladesh is all set to host Sri Lanka for three ODIs followed by three T20Is. The ODIs will be played on April 29, May 2 & May 4 at P Sara Oval in Colombo while the T20Is will be played on May 9, 11, and 12 at SSC Ground in Colombo. Notably, ODIs will be a part of the ongoing Women’s Championship.
