Amid Coronavirus Pandemic when all the major sporting events got canceled or postponed, Waqar Younis feels that the plan of matches to be held behind closed doors will create more problems when the world is battling a worse health crisis.
Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis said that he doesn’t want cricket matches to happen in empty stadiums amid the COVID-19 Pandemic as he feels the desperate plan of holding matches behind closed doors in-stadium will create more problems while the world battles a deadly virus. In a video conference with journalists on Monday, Waqar said that there shouldn’t be any cricket at the moment. The COVID-19 Pandemic has caused nearly 70,000 deaths worldwide.
“No I don’t agree with this suggestion that cricket activities should happen even before empty stadiums”, Waqar Younis said.
Some cricketers and officials of cricket boards said that the game will resume slowly and the matches can be held in front of empty stadiums with the proper precautions in place for teams, officials and other official staff.
“This is not the right time for talking about cricket. I think maybe in five or six months’ time when things are under control around the world and the life is getting back to normalcy we can think about the matches to be held behind closed doors”, the former fast bowler said. “This is not the right time to think about these choices, not after one or two months we can think about cricket after the things get normal”, he said.
“Whenever I have played World Cup or been a coach for Pakistan team I always dream to see my team win the prestigious ICC title. That is why this World T20 is very important for me”, he said. “I would like to be the part of Pakistan team where I can win a major title”, Waqar Younis added.
