


Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to people to turn off the lights for nine minutes at 9 pm on Sunday & light a Diya, torch or flashlight for 9 minutes to show that the whole nation is together in the fight against Coronavirus Pandemic. Indian team Captain Virat Kohli & wife Anushka Sharma joined PM Narendra Modi in the initiative on 5th April at 9pm.
Indian Cricket team Captain Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma joined the whole nation towards showing solidarity and unity in the fight against the Coronavirus Pandemic by switching off the lights and lighting lamps and candles in support of PM Narendra Modi’s call to demonstrate the nation’s unity against Coronavirus Pandemic. Virat Kohli tweeted, “A prayer in unity does make a difference. Pray for every person and stand together in this fight against Coronavirus Pandemic”.
“Every day I light a Diya from many years and I light a Diya to seek guidance from God and asking for the darkness in me to get dispelled. Since many days the turn of recent events across the globe as led the world to a standstill, I have prayed to God to end these sufferings of many people who are losing their lives without their families besides them, for the needy people whose life has become miserable and turned upside down completely, for all the healthcare professionals who are working bravely without stopping to protect the lives of other people and for those who are uncertain about their jobs and future. So tonight, I prayed for everyone and I lit Diya’s with the whole nation and we all prayed for the well-being of each other. Prayers never go in vain”, he added.
PM Modi addressed the nation and appealed them to switch off the lights on 5th April at 9 pm for nine minutes and light Diya, torch or candles to show that the entire nation is united in the fight against Coronavirus Pandemic.
Other sports athletes and cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mary Kom, Hima Das, Sakshi Malik, Saina Nehwal has also taken to social media to express their solidarity in the fight against COVID-19.
Tendulkar took to his twitter handle and thanked the sanitation workers for their selfless service, he tweeted, “My family and I thank the selfless #SanitationWarriors for cleaning our surroundings and hospitals, disinfecting the affected areas and keeping the virus at bay. Let’s also reunite our pledge to take care of our elders, who are at a high risk to get pray to this deadly virus by ensuring their physical and mental wellness”, he tweeted.
This was the second appeal by PM Modi to the nation who earlier appealed the nation to observe ‘Janta Curfew’ and express gratitude towards healthcare workers and other basic service providers by clapping for them. The Janta Curfew had also received an overwhelming response from the citizens of the nation including the sportspersons.
