The ICC on Monday announced the postponement of the T20 World Cup 2020 giving way to the IPL to be conducted in the September-November window.
The postponement of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 has opened a window for this year’s IPL. The mega rich league looks to return after it was postponed in April due to the coronavirus pandemic. However the venue where the IPL is to be conducted still remains unclear. The BCCI has two venues on its mind India & the UAE. Their first preference is India but due to the rise in coronavirus cases, they have decided to have a back-up venue. The UAE had also hosted the first leg of IPL 2014.
A proposal of staging the IPL will be first sent to the Government after the IPL Governing Council Meets this weekend with the two proposed windows for staging 60 matches. The BCCI prefers to go ahead with the September 26 & November 7 window while the broadcasters wish to stage it between September 26 & November 14 to make the most of their Diwali weekend.
However the Indian team travels to Australia for a four Test series starting from December 3 & the board will have a plan for a clear Quarantine window before the Test Series get started. For now, the BCCI will look to submit plans for a bio-secure venue & the process of bringing the players in the bio-secure bubble to ensure their health & safety amidst the pandemic.
