The Swadeshi Jagran Manch which is an affiliate of the RSS has demanded that BCCI must reconsider about their decision to allow Chinese sponsorship’s in the upcoming IPL season.
The Swadeshi Jagran Manch strictly wants the BCCI to give a second thought on the decision of allowing Chinese phone makers Vivo to sponsor the IPL given the ongoing conflicts between India & China following the standoff at the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh. Vivo who is the title sponsor of the IPL has signed a five year deal with the BCCI which is worth 2199 crore in 2017.
SJM who was at the forefront of the campaign to boycott Chinese goods has said that if the decision is not reversed then the Indians should consider boycotting the IPL. National co-convenor of SJM, Ashwani Mahajan said BCCI’s decision is in contravention to the “current mood of the nation”. “The call for boycott of Chinese goods is no longer just a demand from SJM; it is a call that is being supported by citizens in the wake of what transpired between India and China,” Mahajan said.
He further said that BCCI should be very sensitive towards the nation & its security. “Whole world is boycotting China, IPL is sheltering them. They should understand that nothing is above nation.” The Opposition has also criticized BCCI’s decision as Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Sujrewala tweeted, “Wither #AatmaNirbharBharatAbhiyan . Welcome back Cricket-China-profiteering and double standards. #BJPExposed”.
