Shikhar Dhawan is expected to lead the Indian cricket team at the upcoming Asian Games in 2023. A source in BCCI confirmed the development. Last year, the experienced cricketer stepped up to the captain role while Rohit Sharma was rested.
It is believed that the BCCI approved the choice to name Shikhar Dhawan the team’s captain for the Asian Games in order to find expected backup players for the upcoming World Cup. Players have a great chance to show off their abilities and contend for a spot in the final World Cup roster by performing well in the Asian Games 2023.
Cricket fans raised concerns over the team’s participation, questioning whether it is acceptable to compete in such a tournament so close to the World Cup considering the coach and captain’s absence during the Asian Games.

The 19th Asian Games will take place in China for the third time, with Hangzhou chosen as the host city. The Games were previously held in Beijing’s capital city in 1990, and in Guangzhou in 2010.
The Asian Games in 2023 are scheduled to be held at the same time as the World Cup and Asia Cup, both of which will be hosted by India. This could make it difficult for India to participate.
India’s participation in the Asian Games 2023 will be discussed in the BCCI Apex Council Meeting, which is scheduled for July 7. Although, The BCCI almost made the decision to send both the men’s and women’s cricket teams to Hangzhou, China, amid early doubts, proving their commitment to international sporting events.
Due to their prior responsibilities to the Asia Cup and the World Cup itself, it appears unlikely that the known World Cup stars will be able to take part given the schedule of the tournament.
