Continuous rain & thunderstorms in Ahmedabad has postponed the final of IPL 2023. This means finals will now take place on a Reserve Day, i.e. May 29, 2023. This is the first time in the history of IPL that the final will be played on a reserve day. Rain & thunders were so serious that even toss could not take place on the scheduled day. IPL 2023 final will now be played on the reserve day only if the weather permits that.
Recurring Rains ruled out the possibility of curtailed IPL 2023 Final
The Officials waited till 11 pm local time before calling the day off. This is because even a curtailed fixture could not take place due to continuous rainfall. There were provisions made to have a curtailed game if the conditions allowed for it. And when rain stopped for small intervals, there was a time when umpires went on the field & checked the outfield conditions to check whether a curtailed game is possible or not. And when they were satisfied with the outfield conditions, rain intervened again dismissing any possibility of a curtailed fixture. The rescheduled fixture will be played on 29th May i.e. Reserve Day at 7:30 pm local time. The last time when a playoff fixture was played on a reserve day was back in 2014 which was a qualifier between KKR & Punjab Kings.
Thousands of people came from different parts of the world to witness the epic final of IPL. However, most of their hopes were washed out as they were having return flight tickets scheduled for 29th May. They might have to reschedule their flight or miss the IPL 2023 Final which is again a big loss for them. The sudden downpour in Gujarat was a big disappointment for cricket fans who were hoping for a full-fledged summit clash on the scheduled day. Now the play could be resumed tomorrow only if the weather permits. Whether IPL 2023 Final will be played on 29th May or the season would end without a proper conclusion is what will be known tomorrow.
