Punjab cricket Association has requested Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh to come out of the retirement phase & become a player-cum-mentor of the State team. Yuvraj Singh is yet to respond to the Punjab Cricket Association’s proposal.
Punjab Cricket Association Secretary Puneet Bali on Friday said that he made the request since Yuvraj who has announced his retirement last year was already mentoring some players including the young sensation Shubman Gill. Talking about the same Bali said, “We requested Yuvraj five, six days ago and we are waiting his response. It will be really good for Punjab cricket if he can play and mentor them at the same time.”
Last Month Yuvraj Singh was preparing & mentoring some cricketers like Shubman Gill, Anmolpreet Singh, Abhishek Sharma & Harpreet Brar all of them will be featured in the upcoming IPL which will be played in UAE.
Punjab has produced some outstanding players in recent years & Bali said that the experience & cricketing techniques of Yuvraj Singh will benefit the State Team. However it would not be easy for the former cricketer to come out of the retirement zone.
The BCCI considers players to retire officially to provide NCOs for overseas leagues. Yuvraj has played in two overseas tournaments such as the Global T20 Canada and Abu Dhabi T10 League. The left handed batsman who was the key member of the India’s 2011 World Cup winning team has played 40 Tests & 304 ODIs between 2003 & 2017.
