NZ vs PAK: New Zealand announces squad for their upcoming five-match ODI series against Pakistan which will begin in Rawalpindi on Thursday. The squad witnesses the call-up for swashbuckling player Mark Chapman who took the world by storm by smashing the highest runs in the five-match T20I series against Pakistan. He ended the series by amassing 290 runs in five matches & ended the series as the highest run-scorer in T20Is. The series concluded at 2-2 & Chapman scored an unbeaten 104 runs off 57 balls in the fifth T20I to outclass the hosts after suffering an early jolt where the Black Caps were reeling at 26 for 3 in the chase of 194 runs.
The Hong-Kong-based Kiwi player has played seven ODIs so far out of which two were played for Hong Kong. He played his first ODI for New Zealand in 2018 and last played in the format in July 2022, when he scored a match-winning 101* against Scotland. However, his onslaught against Pakistan in the T20I series has opened doors for Chapman in the ODI series as well.
“The way Mark’s played against one of the best T20 bowling attacks in the world has been nothing short of outstanding,” New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said. “His match-winning knock in the fifth and deciding match was particularly special and we’re happy to have someone in such strong form added to our ODI squad.”
Tom Blundell, Henry Nicholls returns to the setup for ODI Series
Meanwhile, Tom Blundell & Henry Nicholls will join Black Caps ahead of the first ODI in Rawalpindi. On the other hand, Dane Cleaver who was a part of the T20I series will return back to New Zealand. Kane Williamson who sustained an injury while playing for Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2023 will continue to stay out of action.
After the conclusion of the five-match T20I series which was tired at 2-2 the action will now shift to the ODI format. The five-match ODI series will be played from April 27, Thursday on the grounds of Rawalpindi. The first two ODIs will be played at Rawalpindi while the National Bank Cricket Arena, in Karachi, will host the final three games of the series.
