MS Dhoni is not only a superb Cricketer but also an excellent driver. His abilities to surprise his opponents & his teammates has been very well known by those who has played with & against him. Dhoni as Captain has garnered headlines but Dhoni as a Bus Driver surely hasn’t.
Few did people know that Dhoni had turned bus driver during his first test match as Full time Captain in 2008. VVS Laxman has recalled in an episode of Star Sports Cricket Connected the incident from the fourth Test against Australia in Nagpur in 2008 when Dhoni drove the team bus from ground to the hotel.
“He was the captain of the Indian team because Anil (Kumble) announced his retirement two matches before in Delhi (in 2008). And MS Dhoni asked the team bus driver to just go and sit behind, and he drove the team bus from the ground to the hotel in Nagpur, and we were all awestruck. The captain of the Indian team, driving the team bus!” Laxman revealed on the show.
“That’s how he used to enjoy his life. For him, being a cricketer was doing everything on the cricket field, but outside the field, everything was normal.”
“It was the final Test of the four-match series and Dhoni, leading India for the first time in Tests, scored 56 in the first innings as India posted 441 and 55 in the second in India’s 295”. The hosts won the match by 172 runs & the series by 2-0.
Dhoni announced his retirement from International Cricket on August 15, putting an end to an illustrious career of over 15 years that started in 2004. He will play in the IPL & lead CSK when the tournament will start in UAE from September 19.
