Ace Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has become the highest wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chahal surpassed the previous record of Caribbean medium pacer Dwayne Bravo who had 183 wickets in his kitty.
Yuzvendra Chahal successfully scalped his 184th IPL wicket in Rajasthan Royal’s riveting fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders this evening at the Eden Gardens. Chahal claimed the crucial wicket of KKR’s skipper Nitish Rana who swept hard and tried to hit the leg-spinner over a deep square leg but failed in his attempt as he was caught by Shimron Hetmyer.
Chahal ended his historic spell with a solid figure of 4/25 as Kolkata was restricted to a 149/8 runs total. This was Chahal’s successive four-wicket haul that also helped him to top the Purple Cap race as he now has 21 wickets in the 2023 season. Chahal is 2 wickets ahead of Mohammed Shami who has 19 wickets in his tally.

Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal had also made his debut at Eden Gardens where he scripted history tonight. Chahal had made his debut and featured for Mumbai Indians back in 2013. He was released ahead of the 2014 season and grabbed by Royal Challengers Bangalore where he showcased his scintillating abilities and established himself as the finest Indian leg-spinner.
Chahal played for Bangalore from IPL 2014-21 where he picked up 139 wickets in his amazing stint. He is still the highest wicket-taker for RCB in IPL. Rajasthan Royals picked Chahal ahead of the 2022 auctions where he set a magnificent combination alongside Ravichandran Ashwin and Adam Zampa.
Addressing the media, delighted Yuzvendra Chahal said that he had never thought that he would achieve this in his career when he started playing IPL. Chahal stated that he had started his journey with Mumbai Indians but his actual journey started with RCB in 2014. Furthermore, he stated that there have been many ups and downs in his career but he has never given up. Interestingly, Chahal is also India’s highest T-20I wicket-taker with 91 strikes in 75 matches.
