Ajinkya Rahane registered his 100th test catch at The Oval’s ICC WTC 2023 Final. Rahane achieved this crucial milestone by removing Australia skipper Pat Cummins. By attaining this unique feat Rahane joined the elite group of players who accomplished this honor in Test cricket.
On Day 2, the Australian innings was declared over with a dominating total of 469 runs. By collecting the wickets of Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins, Mohammed Siraj provided the decisive blows. Rahane was perfectly positioned at the extra cover & soon Cummins tried a shot off Siraj’s back-of-a-length ball outside off-stump in the 122nd over, resulting in an easy catch by Rahane.
In the longest format of the game, Rahane’s 100th catch is an important milestone. With an amazing total of 209 catches, Rahul Dravid, the former captain of India, owns the record for the most catches made by a fielder in a Test match.
With a four-wicket haul for a score of 108 in 28.3 overs, pacer Mohammed Siraj was pivotal in ruining the Australian batting order. Taking two wickets each, Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur also made essential contributions. Travis Head, a flashy left-handed batsman who hit an incredible 163 runs off 174 balls was the top performer for Australia.

In the meanwhile, Steve Smith extended his historic hundred-making streak by scoring 121 off 268 deliveries to reach his 31st century. With eight centuries under his name, Smith has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary Indian cricketer, who has the most centuries with 11.
The other cricketers who are a part of the list of highest catchest in the Test format are Rahul Dravid who leads India’s list of legendary fielders in Test cricket with 209, followed by VVS Laxman (135), Sachin Tendulkar (115), Virat Kohli (109), Sunil Gavaskar (108), Mohammed Azharuddin (105). Joining the elite list is Ajinkya Rahane, who became a part of this list with 100 catches.
Coming to IND vs AUS WTC 2023 Final, Australia has managed to post a mammoth 469 runs total on board. In reply, India lost early wickets. However, Ajinkya Rahane (89 off 122 balls) & Shardul Thakur (36 off 83 balls) are steadying India’s innings. India is currently at 260-6 trailing by 209 runs.
