The Schedule of World Cup 2023 is unveiled & the much anticipated India vs Pakistan fixture will be hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Not only this but all the crucial fixtures such as Australia vs England games, and the ODI World Cup finals will be hosted at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium. The Schedule of the marquee event has been announced on Tuesday at an ICC event in Mumbai to make the ‘Countdown of World Cup 2023’. The marquee tournament will be played in the 2019 format with 10 teams competing against each other in a single group phase with the top-four teams progressing to the semifinals.
Defending Champions England will lock horns with New Zealand in the rematch of the finals from four years back to kickstart the World Cup on October 5. A total No of 10 venues such as Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune, Dharamsala, and Lucknow will host 48 fixtures over a period of 46 days. As per the reports, Wankhede Stadium will host the first semi-final while the second semi-final will be hosted at the Eden Garden in Kolkata. Notably, both Mumbai & Kolkata have been the hosts of the World Cup Semifinal & Final in earlier editions of the World Cup. And just like previous editions both the semifinals & finals will have a Reserve Day.
India will Kickstart their World Cup Campaign against Australia
Meanwhile, India will kickstart their World Cup 2023 Campaign against five-time winners Australia in Chennai on October 8. They will then play against Afghanistan in Delhi on October 11 before their fixture against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 15. India will play against Pakistan just once during the league stage.
Most of the teams will play nine league stage fixtures across ten venues. But Pakistan will play only in five cities while Australia will play at eight venues. The league stage fixtures will end on November 12 with England playing against Pakistan in the last fixture. Before the beginning of the ODI World Cup 2023, all the teams will play warm-ups in Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati between September 29 and October 3.
The teams who have managed to grab direct qualification in the World Cup 2023 are New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and South Africa. They have managed to get a direct entry to the World Cup 2023 on the back of their World Cup Super League Points. While the final two teams will book their slots through the World Cup Qualifiers 2023 to be held in Zimbabwe.
