CPL 2023 is all set to kickstart on August 16 & will be played till September 24. After the release of the CPL 2023 schedule questions arise that why the league will be played in the third week of August. So ending all speculations here is the reason why CPL 2023 will be played in the mid of August.
As per the sources, India vs West Indies will begin from the second week of July & will continue till the mid of August. So to avoid any clash with the much-anticipated series & ensure key West Indies players’ participation in the CPL, the schedule of the league is kept after the conclusion of the IND vs WI series.
Though the schedule of the IND vs WI series is not fixed yet, the series will probably end on August 12 in Florida US. And just three days after the conclusion of the series, CPL 2023 will commence from August 16 to September 24 at five different locations with each location hosting six matches.
Coming to the India tour of West Indies the itinerary of the same hasn’t been announced by CWI. But according to reports the IND vs WI series will conclude on August 13 with the last T20I at Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Florida.
The India tour of the West Indies comprising two Tests, three ODIs & five T20Is will begin on 12th July with a Test fixture. And the last two fixtures of the series will be played in the US. The CWI Officials have confirmed that the complete schedule of the tour will be released soon by the board.
CPL 2023 Schedule Explained:
The season opener fixture of CPL 2023 will be played between Saint Lucia Kings & Defending Champions Jamaica Tallawahs at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground. The 11th edition of the tournament will be played in the caravan model with the fixtures moving from one place to another.
The tournament gets underway in Saint Lucia with six matches at the Daren Sammy Cricket ground between August 16 and 20 with the home side, the Saint Lucia Kings, appearing in four of those fixtures. From there the tournament moves to St Kitt’s & Nevis with six matches to be played at Warner Park between August 23 and 27 with four games for the home team, the Patriots.
The second leg of the tournament will be played in Barbados with six fixtures to be played at the Kensington Oval out of which four fixtures will be fixtures for home team Barbados Royals. The matches in Barbados will be played from August 30 to September 3. From September 5 to 10 the league will be played in Trinidad & Tobago with four out of six matches of the home team, Trinbago Knight Riders.
The final leg of the tournament comprising eliminator & knockout fixtures will be played in Guyana from September 13 to 24. The final of CPL 2023 will be played on Monday, September 25, at the Providence Stadium at 4:30 AM IST. The six teams that will compete in CPL 2023 are the Jamaica Tallawahs, Saint Lucia Kings, Trinbago Knight Riders, St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Barbados Royals, and Guyana Amazon Warriors.
