Shai Hope & Rovman Powell throned as West Indies ODI & T20I Captains with immediate effect. Hope & Powell will take the reins of the team from Nicholas Pooran who has recently resigned from his post as the limited-overs captain after West Indies was knocked out of the first round of the T20 World Cup 2022. Hope & Powell will take up the charge of the West Indies forthcoming ODI & T20I series against South Africa, starting on March 16.
Shai Hope was named the vice-captain of the West Indies ODI team in 2019. The top-order batter has featured in 104 ODIs amassing 4308 runs at an average of 48.08. On the other hand, Powell has led the ship of the Jamaica Tallawahs team & guided them to a glorious triumph in 2022. He captained Jamaica Scorpions to the CG United Super 50 Cup Title triumph in November 2022 & further led West Indies in three ODIs & one T20I.

On the other hand, Powell said that he is grateful after receiving this opportunity to lead the West Indies team. He also said that it’s an honor for him to get appointed as the Captain of the ODI format. He further expressed that leaidng the Caribbean team is a matter of honor for him & he will ensure to fulfill this responsibility in his best capacity.
West Indies next assignment is against South Africa where they will play three matches ODI & T20I followed by two-match Test Series. West Indies tour of South Africa will begin with a three-match ODI series & three match T20I series followed by two-match Test Series. The ODI series will be played on March 16,18 & 21 while the T20Is will be played on March 25, 26 & 28. After the completion of the white ball leg, the Test leg will begin with two Test matches to be played between February 28 & March 12.
