Washington Sundar will no longer participate in the IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury. The news has been confirmed by the franchise on Thursday. Washington has played seven matches for SRH during IPL 2023 amassing just 60 runs from five innings & returning with three wickets so far. Sundar has also scored an unbeaten 24 runs off 15 balls which was his highest score with the Willow in the ongoing season so far. He couldn’t display an impactful performance in the cash-rich league & now an injury would further dent his chances of improvising his game & bouncing back in the league.
Washington Sundar Injury Spate hovered clouds over his career
This is the third time when Washington has suffered an injury during IPL. Back in 2021, Washington was ruled out of the UAE leg of IPL 2023 due to a finger injury. He was a part of the RCB team where he could scalp just three wickets in the first half of the season. The stars were not aligned for Sundar as he was forced to miss the ODI leg of India’s tour of South Africa in January 2022 after testing positive for COVID-19. After recovering from COVID-19, he sustained a hamstring injury which kept him out of three match T20I series at home against West Indies. Washington didn’t leave hope & aimed at making a comeback with the IPL 2022 after being picked by SRH. However, after playing a few fixtures for SRH, he was ruled out for four matches due to a split webbing in his bowling hand. He recovered from a split webbing & again sustained an injury in his left shoulder while fielding for Lancashire club during the County Championship 2022. The injury further ruled him out of the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
Talking about SRH, the Orange Army is occupying the ninth spot at the IPL 2023 Points Table with just two wins from nine fixtures they have played. They will next lock horns with Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 29 & will hope to end their losing streak by winning that fixture. Washington’s absence will be felt by the franchisee who will try their best to return back to form.
