The IPL 2023 is becoming more interesting with each passing day. Adding to the excitement is the race for Orange & Purple Cap which is becoming more fierce with each fixture being played. Both batters & bowlers are leaving no stone unturned to make their presence felt & stay ahead in the race of Orange & Purple Cap. Let’s week we have gone through top contenders for the orange cap & now its time to go through the top five players who are the contenders for Purple Cap in IPL 2023:
- Mark Wood:
LSG’s wreck-in-chief, Mark Wood has turned the heads around with his swashbuckling performances with the new ball. He is one of the top contenders to win the Purple Cap by fetching 11 wickets in four fixtures at an enticing economy of 8.12. If he could manage to increase his wicket count & improve his economy rate then he can become the new Purple cap holder of IPL 2023.
2. Yuzvendra Chahal:
IPL 2022 Purple Cap Holder, Yuzvendra Chahal is another contender for Purple Cap in IPL 2023. Chahal who has been one of the top bowlers of the IPL over the years is tied with Mark Wood with 11 wickets in his kitty from five fixtures. However, he has achieved 11 wickets in five matches but has a lower economy rate than Mark Wood i.e. 7.85. So if Chahal continues to scalp wickets moving ahead in the league then he can surely reclaim the Purple Cap in IPL 2023.
3. Rashid Khan:
Afghanistan’s top spinner & renowned name in World Cricket, Rashid Khan is third in the race of Purple Cap for IPL 2023. The leader of Gujarat’s spin attack Rashid Khan too has 11 wickets from five matches but his economy rate is more than Mark & Chahal. He has sclaped 11 wickets at an economy rate of 8.30. If he improvises his economy rate & wicket count then he can surpass Chahal & mark Wood to become the leading contender for Purple Cap in 2023.
4. Mohammed Shami:
India’s veteran pacer & Gujarat Titans’ other gem, Mohammad Shami occupies the fourth spot in the race for Purple Cap in IPL 2023. Shami is just one wicket behind the leading wicket-takers who are occupying the top spot on the list. He currently bags 10 wickets in five matches at an economy of 8.35. He needs to pull up his socks & add more wickets in his kitty if he wants to become the new owner of IPL 2023 Purple Cap.
5. Tushar Deshpande:
CSK’s latest find Tushar Deshpande has managed to create a mark right on his debut IPL season. Initially, the bowler had a tough time but soon he led a turnaround & became the fifth contender for Purple Cap. He has fetched 10 wickets in five matches at an economy of 11.40. Even if he doesn’t win Purple Cap he would be proud to make it to the Purole cap list right in his debut season.
