SRH vs DC: Mitchell Marsh’s all-around show went in vain as the ‘Orange Army’ held their nerves & displayed a clinical show to register a nervy nine-run win at Delhi’s home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium. The match began with Sunrisers batting first. SRH got off to a good start, thanks to Abhishek Sharma who went all blazing guns right in the opening over of their innings. He smashed consecutive fours off Ishant Sharma’s spell in the first over of the innings. His partners Mayank Agarwal (5) & Tripathi (10) couldn’t provide him support at the other end & were dismissed cheaply reducing SRH to 44-2 in 4.4 overs. But it doesn’t affect SRH’s scoring rate with Abhishek Sharma present on the crease.
Abhishek’s knock followed by Klaasen & Samad’s late flourish guided SRH to 197 runs total
However, there was a mini-collapse in the 10th over when Mitchell Marsh struck in the 10th over twice to dismiss Markram (8) & Brook (0) reducing SRH to 83-4 in 10 overs. But there came a rescue for SRH as Klaasen joined the crease with Abhishek. The duo kept SRH’s scoreboard ticking by smashing regular fours. But soon SRH suffered a big blow when Axar dismissed Abhishek in the 12th over to give Delhi a big breakthrough. Abhishek went back after scoring 67 runs off 36 balls with 12 fours & one six. After his dispersal, Samad along with Klassen kept SRH alive in the fixture.
The duo stitched another crucial 53-run stand in 5,3 overs to guide SRH over a big total. But soon Marsh returned to mark his third wicket of the day by dismissing Abdul Samad in the 17th over. But Klaasen didn’t lose hope, he was going strong by smashing boundaries & sixes. He got valuable support from Akeal Hosein at the other end who played a quick cameo of 10 runs off 16 balls. As a result, SRH scored 62 runs in the last five overs & helped SRH to conclude 20 overs at 197 runs total on board. For Delhi, Mitchell Marsh starred with the ball by returning with figures of 4-27.
Marsh-Salt’s century stand went in vain as the middle order succumbed to SRH’s spin attack
In reply, Delhi Capitals got off to a poor start as they lost Warner for a duck right in the first over. But then came Mitchell Marsh & Philip Salt for Delhi’s rescue as they stitched a rewarding 100-run stand to bring Delhi’s innings back on track. They smashed SRH bowlers all across the park & took Delhi’s score over 100 run mark in 10 overs. But the game wasn’t over for SRH who brought spinners into attack to bounce back into the game. And the captain’s decision proved fruitful as Markande dismissed set Phillip Salt in the 12th over. Salt went back to the pavilion after scoring 59 runs off 35 balls by smashing nine fours. Then Abhishek accounted for Manish’s (1) wicket in the 13th over. Mitchell Marsh who was taking care of the other side fell prey to Akeal Hosein’s delivery & was sent packing in the 14th over.
He went back after amassing 63 runs off 39 balls in an innings laced with one four & 6 sixes. Wickets kept tumbling for Delhi as Sarfaraz, and Priyam all went back to the hut early. The in-form all-rounder Axar Patel was introduced in the play very late thus his quick cameo of 29 runs off 14 balls was of no use. As a result, Delhi fell nine runs short of the target thanks to some on-spot yorkers from T Natarajan & Bhuvneshwar Kumar. For Sunrisers Hyderabad Mayank Markande starred with the ball by returning with figures of 2-20.
