Sophie Ecclestone named as Manchester Originals Captain

Cricket News India – Sophie Ecclestone to lead Manchester Originals for the first time in the upcoming season of the Hundred. Notably, this is the first time in her professional career that she will lead a team. Initially, Kate Cross led Manchester Originals in the first two seasons of the Hundred 2023 tournament. But during March 2023 draft Kate was signed by Northern Superchargers which provided an opportunity for Ecclestone to take up the reins of Originals in the 2023 season of the Hundred tournament.

Being the first leadership role of Ecclestone’s career it may hold long career-term significance from England’s perspective. She has never led a professional team during her career stint with England. However, Ecclestone has served as England’s frontline spinner for a long term & could easily become the successor for Heather Knight to captain the National team.

“I’m buzzing to be captaining Manchester Originals this year,” Ecclestone said in an ECB press release. “The Hundred is such a great competition to take part in and I can’t wait to lead the girls out at Emirates Old Trafford.”

Ellyse Perry to replace Sophie Devine as Birmingham Phoenix Captain

Australia’s swashbuckling all-rounder, Ellyse Perry will replace Sophie Devine as Birmngham’s Phoenix Captain. On the other hand, Dane Van Niekerk has been re-appointed as Oval Invincibles Captain. Earlier Niekerk lost her position to Suzie Bates during their title-winning season last year.

Coming to Men’s the Hundred 2023, Tom Abell has been appointed as Welsh Fire’s New Skipper. Earlier in February, a leading media portal revealed that Mike Hussey had appointed Abell as the leader of Welsh Fire’s team. Later in March Draft 2023, Abell was signed for a whopping amount of £125,000 for the upcoming season of the league. Six teams of the Hundred 2023 have confirmed their captains for both men’s & women’s teams. Only Northern Superchargers & Trent Rockets are yet to announce their captains.

The Hundred 2023 will be played from August 1-27 in 2023. Notably, England’s domestic league will have a separate window which means it will not clash with England’s men’s or women’s fixtures.
