SL vs IRE: Prabath Jayasuriya scripted history by scalping 50 wickets in seven Tests to become the fastest spinner to achieve this feat in red ball format. It was in 71 years that a spinner achieved this remarkable feat. During Sri Lanka’s second Test against Ireland, Prabath Jayasuriya became the fastest spinner to reach 50 Test wickets He reached the milestone by dismissing veteran opener Paul Stirling on the last day of the Galle match marking his 50th Test wicket.
Earlier West Indies spinner Alf Valentine held the record by sclaping 50 Test wickets in 8 matches but now Jayasuriya has rewritten history by achieving the feat in just 7 fixtures. The record is permanently owned by former Australia international Charlie Turner who has achieved this feat in just six matches in six fixtures. The prolific batter set the record in 1888, & even after 135 years, no one could actually break that record.

Prabhat Jayasuriya is turning heads around right from his debut in July 2022 against Australia where his stunning figures of 6-112 & 6059 helped the Lankas to outclass Australia by an innings & 39 runs. Right one year from his debut, he has turned heads around with his six five-wicket hauls with a stunning average of 39. He also returned with figures of 7-52 & 3-56 in the first Test against Ireland. Now in the Galle Test also, Prabath registered a seven-wicket haul which prevented Ireland from chasing a mammoth total. Later Karunaratne (115), Madushanka (205), and Kusal Mendis (245) helped Sri Lanka to declare their first innings at 704-3. In the second innings, Ramesh Mendis (5-64), Prabath Jayasuriya (2-88) & Avishka Fernando (3-30) produced an outstanding spell to bowl out Ireland for 202 registering 10 runs win. In the process, he became the fastest spinner to register 50 Test wickets i.e. only in seven fixtures.
Earlier in the first Test as well, Jayasuriya returned with figures of 7-52 & 3-56 which helped him to win the match of the series award. His heroics helped Sri Lanka to beat Ireland by an innings & 280 runs in the first Test.
