Ashes 2023 has made a point to grab the attention of viewers in every possible way. And the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow during the second Test is one such incident that has left fans & cricket fraternity talking about it.
Why did Jonny Bairstow’s Dismissal become the Talk of the Town?
Jonny Bairstow was stumped on Day 5 of the second Ashes Test off Cemron Green’s delivery after ducking a bouncer & leaving the crease with the ball still in the play. Alex Carey made use of the opportunity by hitting the stumps with an underarm throw as Bairstow was away from the crease. The dismissal didn’t go well with the hosts as they find it against the spirit of the game. However, Australians & the entire cricket fraternity termed the dismissal as lawful & within the laws of the game. Opening up on the Controversial dismissal of Bairstow Robinson said that though England is finding it wrong the dismissal is within the laws of the game.
“That’s not the way that we want to play or the way that we want to win games of cricket. But at the same time, laws are there to be played to and the fact that the laws state it’s out, I don’t think you can have too many arguments about that side of it,” he wrote in his column for Wisden.com. “Jonny wasn’t attempting a run, he wasn’t trying to get any advantage, but they’d seen something and I’ve read a few comments that they’d seen him do it a few balls before.”
Ollie Robinson is on the rolls in the Ashes 2023
Though England has failed to win even a single fixture in the ongoing Ashes 2023, Robinson has managed to grab wickets at regular intervals. He has returned with 10 wickets at an average of 24.6o in the two Tests so far. The hosts are currently trailing the series by 0-2 & will have to win the rest of the three Tests in order to regain the Prestigious Ashes Trophy. The third Test of the Ashes 2023 will begin on July 6 at Headingley in Leeds.
