New South Wales has released the contract list for the 2023-24 season & there comes a huge shock for the fans. Swashbuckling all-rounder Daniel Sams has been denied New South Wales Contracts as he wants to explore more opportunities with franchise leagues. Sams who has featured in BBL has previously played four T20Is for Australia & is currently participating in the IPL 2023 with Lucknow Super Giants. However, he is yet to play hsi first game for LSG in the ongoing IPL. He will shortly join Essex Club for the Vitality T20 Blast 2023 & will feature in the Hundred 2023.
He has featured in five One Day Marsh Cup fixtures for NSW in 2022 but he hasn’t played any first-class fixture since 2018. Meanwhile, there comes good news for Chris Green who has earned his maiden NSW contract for the 2023-24 season on the back of gleaming performances. He was also named as NSW’s Sheffield Shield Player for the 2022-23 season where he scalped 20 wickets out of which nine wickets were scalped on his first-class debut where he amassed 290 runs in six matches.
Fast bowler Jackson Bird has moved from Tasmania to NSW while top order batter Blake McDonald & seamer Ross Pawson has also earned their maiden NSDW Contracts. McDonald amassed a half-century on his Shield debut in their fixture against South Australia in their final fixture of the season. He has scored an unbeaten 177 playing for NSW & ACT XI against West Indies. It’s his blistering performances which helped him to earn his maiden NSW Contract.
Adding to the new signings list is Australia’s last season’s U19 Captain, Joel Davies. He has been handed a contract and will join his brother Ollie at the New South Wales in the lineup. New South Wales Chief of Cricket Performance, Greg Mail expressed his happiness over the additions of prolific players Jackson Bird and Chris Green to centrally contracted players. He further praised Blake MacDonald and Ross Pawson for their consistent performances.
“With the additions of Jackson and Chris we get some experience from guys with well-documented credentials,” Greg Mail, NSW’s chief of cricket performance, said. “Both Blake and Ross have deserved their contracts through sheer weight of runs and wickets at Premier Cricket and Second Xl level. Their contracts show that when players consistently perform at that level, we will look at those performances positively,” Greg added to his statement.
The New South Wales franchise too has a new Head Coach in place with Greg Shipherd taking up the responsibility from the upcoming season.
