Mumbai Indians are all set to offer England’s swashbuckling pacer Jofra Archer a year long contract. If Archer agrees to the deal then ECB will have to take permission from MI to allow him to play for the National team again. If MI manages to get ECB’s approval then it will be a rare occassion where a player contracted with an Indian team plays for the National team.
For the unversed, Mumbai Indians signed Jofra Archer in the IPL 2022 Auction despite the fact that Cricketer will not be able to play even a singke fixture in the competition. However, they were confident that after recoerving fully Archer could feature in the IPL 2023. And their anticipation was fulfilled as Barbados born player featured in five fixtures scalping two wickets. However his long standing elbow issue recurred again which ruled him out of action for the remaining of IPL 2023.
Despite his fitness concerns, MI is all set to back the cricketer in his thicks & thins. If Archer sign any contract with Mumbai Indians then they will end-up controlling his schedule inroder to keep him fit for the other T20 franchise based tournaments that MI are a part of. Both the teams are yet to communicate the matter in depth & come to a conclusion. But as per the sources, MI will go to every extend to get Archer contracted.
Alex Hales might also receive an offer for One Year Contract
Reports also claimed that International star Alex Hales might also get such offers. England’s prolific player is not a regular part of the national team & the franchise in looking ahead to offer him one year contract. Initially in IPL 2022 he was signed by KKR but didn’t feature in any of the fixture as he wanted to manage his workload. But now it seems that he will sign a contract with the franchise to feature in T20 leagues.
For the unversed, New Zealand’s spectacular pacer Trent Boult has opted out of Central Contract in 2022 so that he can sign such contracts with franchisees. Currently he is an integral part of Rajasthan Royals franchise. RR also has stakes in SA 20 league & CPL league.
