In the chase of 177 runs, Mumbai failed to capitalize on the excellent start provided by openers Rohit Sharma & Ishan Kishan. Their middle & lower order failed to return with crucial runs. In the end, Tim David displayed heroics with the bat but couldn’t chase the target for his team. As a result, Mumbai was restricted to 172 runs at the end of 20 overs.
MI vs LSG: What restricted MI from chasing Target?
Mumbai Indians got off to a blastic start in the chase of 177 runs with Rohit-Ishan stitching a powering 90-run stand for the first wickets. However, after their dismissals, there was a collapse with Suryakumar Yadav (7), Nehal Wadhera (16), and Vishnu Vinod (2) losing their wickets in quick succession.
With 11 runs needed off 6 balls & Cameron & David on the crease, the chase seemed easy for Mumbai Indians. But it was Mohsin Khan’s final-over heroics that denied MI the winning runs & helped LSG to claim a thrilling five-run win. Mohsin held his nerves & conceded just five runs in the last over to help Lucknow register a nervy five runs win.
After the thrilling match-winning spell, Mohsin Khan dedicated his performance to his father who is not well. Mohsin ended his stint with figures of 2-26 in his spell of three overs.
“I am playing after one year. I was injured, and it was a tough time. I am happy to bowl, and my father was in the hospital in the ICU. He was discharged yesterday, and I am hoping he is watching. Today I played for my father. He was hospitalized and is out now. Thanks to the team and support staff for having faith in me,” Mohsin said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
With this closely fought win LSG moved up to the third position on the Points Table with 15 points in 13 matches. While the losing team Mumbai is placed in the fourth spot on the Points table with 14 points in 13 matches.
