Omkar Salvi has been named the Head Coach of Mumbai’s domestic senior team. He will now replace Amol Muzamdar who didn’t renew his contract with MCA after the end of his contract tenure. Salvi has received a contract for a period of one year. Former Mumbai pacer Salvi was selected by the Lalchand Rajput-headed Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC), which is responsible for taking all cricket-related decisions of the MCA. CIC’s committee members. Sahil Kukreja & Preeti Dimri the members of CIC have interviewed seven candidates for the Head Coach Position. Sameer Dighe, Vinayak Mane, Vinayak Samant, Pradeep Sundaram, Umesh Patwal, and Atul Ranade were the other candidates interviewed by the CIC.
Among the interviewed candidates, Dighe the only Test player was the favorite for the position. But the head of CIC, Lalchand Rajput felt that Salvi’s vision for Mumbai is far more better than the rest of the candidates. Speaking about the selection Lalchand said that among the candidates who have applied for the post of Head Coach Omkar was the best person. He also said that Salvi has been coaching IPL for several years & knows the art of handling both International & local players. He further said that Salvi is well conversant with modern-day technology & could righteously take the Mumbai team forward.
For the unversed, Salvi has served as KKR’s bowling coach & has applied for the position with sheer experience in handling the franchise. On the back of his widespread experience, Salvi has received an offer from Mumbai’s team. KKR has already agreed to release Salvi from hsi duties if gets the role with the Mumbai team.
