The Madras High Court on Monday decided that they will be hearing the contempt of court plea of former India Captain MS Dhoni against Tamil Nadu’s cadre IPS Officer Sampath Kumar. The High Court will hear the appeal on Thursday, June 15 as the court hears the contempt of court cases only on Thursdays.
Why Dhoni filed the Complaint against the IPS Officer?
Dhoni filed the complaint against the IPS Officer following IPS remarks written in response to the 100 crores defamation suit filed by Dhoni for naming him in the infamous IPL betting scam in 2013. The Advocate General of Tamil Nadu, R. Shanmugasundaram has granted Dhoni permission to move his case petition after it was proved that the remarks made by Sampath Kumar resulted in scandalizing court proceedings.
The betting & match fixing was dropped in 2014, which saw many players from CSK & RR getting banned along with franchises for the IPL 2016 & 2017 seasons.
CSK won their fifth IPL title by winning 2023
