Ace English batsman Liam Livingstone has been appointed as the Captain of Lancashire County for the upcoming edition of the Vitality T20 Blast 2023. Livingstone has been assigned a crucial responsibility as Lancashire is set to witness a riveting season with the majority of their national stars available for the season. Notably, Livingstone had previously served as Lancashire’s all-format Captain back in 2018. However, he had stepped down after personally struggling with form and Lancashire was subsequently relegated from the Division One of the County Championship.
Livingstone will replace Keaton Jennings as the skipper of Lancashire. Jennings sustained a hamstring injury while featuring at the County Championship last month and has been ruled out of contention for the rest of the summer. Liam Livingstone recently had an exceptional Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Livingstone featured for the Punjab Kings franchise and he pioneered the batting attack for Shikhar Dhawan & Co. Unfortunately, Punjab Kings failed to qualify for the Playoffs but Livingstone’s phenomenal performance was highly acclaimed.
Liam Livingstone is confident of leading Lancashire in Vitality T20 Blast 2023
Addressing the media, Livingstone stated that things were very different back in 2018 than in the present. He claimed that he has attained enough international experience over the past couple of years and he is now confident enough to lead Lancashire to victory in the T-20 Blast.
Apart from Liam Livingstone, flourishing T20 batsmen Jos Buttler and Phil Salt are also set to join Lancashire. Livingstone and Salt have already joined the camp whereas Buttler will be available from June 1 after a short break. Interestingly, Buttler will be available for 10 T-20 Blast fixtures, which is more than the combined matches he had played in the last five years.
Lancashire was off to a flying start at Vitality T20 Blast 2023 as they recorded a solid four-wicket victory over Derbyshire in their inaugural fixture on Saturday. Dane Vilas was appointed as the interim captain but he was eventually left out of the squad to accommodate overseas talent Daryl Mitchell and Colin de Grandhomme. Lancashire will take on Leicestershire in their next fixture on Thursday afternoon.
