Former South Africa allrounder Lance Klusener has signed a contract with the Tripura Cricket Association for India’s upcoming season of domestic cricket. Klusener has signed a 100 days contract with Tripura Cricket Association. Along with handling the Ranji team, he will also help Tripura’s eight teams in both men’s and women’s sections among various age groups to learn new skills and upgrade themselves.
Tripura Cricket Association Vice-President Timir Chanda said that Klusener would reach Tripura’s capital Agartala on Saturday to start the training process for the development of cricketers. In the first phase, he will stay in Agartala for 20 days & will guide the cricketers.
“We hope the cricketers will benefit from his vast international experience,” Chanda said. “Our cricketers are also excited to work with Klusener.”
A Glimpse of Lance Klusener Career
Lance Klusener has played 49 Tests & 171 ODIs for South Africa. He was appointed as Delhi’s consultant for the 2018-19 season. He is currently serving as the coach of the Durban Super Giants in the SA20 league. He has also worked as the batting coach of Proteas & Zimbabwe & named the Head Coach of the Afghanistan team in the T20 World Cup 2021. During the 1999 ODI World Cup, Klusener led South Africa’s team in the Championship tournament which was his career’s best performance.
He ended his ODI career with 3576 ODI runs at an average of 41.10 and a strike rate of 89.91, He hung his boots as one of the best power-hitter in world cricket. And with a rich experience in domestic cricket & a note-worthy experience in Intenrational cricket, he was termed perfect for handling the National team in white ball format. While Conrad was predicted to lead the Test team.
However, earlier in 2023, he withdrew his application for the post of Porteas White-ball coach. He was among the six shortlisted candidates for the post of South Africa’s new head coach but still, he choose to pull out of the process & concentrate on his role with T20 franchise leagues.
