Astonishing paceman Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the upcoming English summer season after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed a recurrence of a stress fracture on his right elbow. Archer will miss the entire season including the crucial Ashes against Australia.
Archer was a part of the Mumbai Indians contingent in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. However, he flew home midway through the season after complaining of pain. Archer had reportedly flown to Belgium in order to consult with a specialist surgeon.
Jofra Archer had recently stormed back onto the field in England’s white-ball series against South Africa. Prior to that, Jofra had remained distant from the field for almost a couple of years. Archer had been continuously struggling with his back and elbow injuries that had kept him out of contention.
Sussex & ECB will observe Archer’s Rehabilitation process
The ECB along with Sussex County will collectively be involved to ensure a smoother recovery and rehabilitation of Jofra Archer. England will certainly be hopeful for Archer’s return before the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 which is scheduled to take place in October-November in India.
Jofra Archer did not have a fruitful campaign at the IPL 2023. His struggle with the injuries led him to scalp only 2 wickets in five games. Notably, Archer conceded runs at an expensive economy of 9.5 which is unusual in his prolific career.
Addressing the media, ECB Director Rob Key stated that it is really unfortunate that England is going to miss the services of Archer for another vital season. Key mentioned that Archer has been deliberately struggling with his injuries and it is critical that he is provided with his comfort zone to completely recover and come back stronger.
Meanwhile, ECB has also announced England’s frontline squad for the upcoming one-off Test against Ireland. Veteran batting sensation Jonny Bairstow has stormed back into the squad along with Chris Woakes and Mark Wood. Ben Foakes has been sidelined. Ben Stokes will lead the side and Ollie Pope has been announced as his deputy.
