Ace English paceman Jofra Archer has reportedly sustained another injury and has undergone minor medical surgery on his right below. Archer last featured for Mumbai Indians against Punjab Kings where he survived a tough blow on his right elbow that kept him out of contention in Mumbai’s last pool-stage fixture against Gujarat Titans.
To perform the operation, Archer had traveled to Belgium as specialist surgeon Roger Riet consulted the pacer. The initial investigation had yielded a serious concern as doctors feared that Jofra might remain off the field for four to five weeks, but the assumptions were later ruled out. Jofra has traveled back to India for the remainder of the IPL but his availability remains unsure.
Notably, Jofra Archer has undergone medical treatment for the fifth time in the last couple of years. He has remained unavailable for the majority of this time frame to ensure a complete recovery and rehabilitation. Mumbai Indians will now keenly assess the condition of Jofra and his availability.
IPL 2023: Jofra Archer unavailability is a major setback for Mumbai Indians
The Mumbai Indians have been largely struggling due to their inexperienced bowling attack. The services of their veterans Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer are largely missed. The Mumbai bowlers were brutally thrashed in the last couple of games as they failed to restrict the opponent within the 200-run mark.
Skipper Rohit Sharma is also clueless about his bowling department after two consecutive defeats. The ace batsman had no answers as defiant Gujarat Titans posted a 206-run total in their previous game last evening at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Arjun Tendulkar has proved to be effective in the start but expensive in the death bowling. The pacing duo of Riley Meredith and Jason Behendorff has failed to break partnerships and be economic. The spinners have done an efficient job and Piyush Chawla looks fantastic.
Mumbai Indians clearly have to work on improvising their strategies, especially in the bowling attack to stand their chances of qualification to the Playoffs at the Indian Premier League 2023.
