Queensland Wicket-keeper Jimmy Peirson has been called into Australia’s Ashes 2023 squad as a replacement for Josh Inglis who will miss a part of the tour. Inglis will return home for the birth of his first child & will return later while Peirson will join the tour ahead of the second Test at Lord’s. The inclusion of Peirson is on the back of his consistent performance in the Sheffield Shield tournament. Since the beginning of Sheffield Shield 2020-21, he has amassed 1337 runs at 37.13 on average with five tons in his name.
Notably, Peirson was also a part of the Australia A tour & have registered a century in the Sri Lanka tour last year. He has also trained with the main Australia team in recent weeks. Pierson could join the Test squad only if Alex Carey is ruled out due to an injury. But looking at his form, there are chances of Peirson earning a spot in Australia’s Test Squad. Speaking to a renowned media portal in 2022, Peirson said that he knew the competition for wicket-keeping spots is tough but wants to ensure that he leave no stone unturned in grabbing the wicket-keeping spot.
“There is an away Ashes next summer. I’d love to get over and play some sort of cricket in England,” he said. “I’ve played premier league cricket quite a few years ago now but would love to experience those conditions again and develop my game. If I don’t play Test cricket that would be a frustration, but all I can do is when I’m done, sit in my armchair and know that I did everything I could.”
