Ishan Kishan was among the 15 players who were selected in India’s squad for the WTC 2023 Final against Australia at the Oval. However, he couldn’t make a cut into the Playing XI with the management going for KS Bharat. Ishan Kishan is yet to make his Test debut, but he has been a regular part of India’s white-ball team. Ishan had a hot & cold season in the IPL 2023 & managed to finish with 454 runs in 16 fixtures.
Ishan will play an integral role in the West India white ball series with regular players being rested for the series. The players who possess central contracts or who are in consideration for National team schemes would reach the NCA where their fitness level will be assessed & thus Ishan will join others in the camp.
Ishan Kishan pulls out from Duleep Trophy 2023
India’s domestic season will kickstart from Duleep Trophy on June 28 in Bengaluru with the finals to be played from July 12-16. Ishan was all set to feature in the East Zone team but the prolific youngster decided not to play in the tournament.
Ishan Kishan’s decision raised a few eyebrows as Cricket experts felt that playing in India’s domestic cricket could have helped him to be considered for India’s Test XI as KS Bharat is yet to make an impact in the Test format & this could be a great opportunity for Ishan to impress the team management.
Meanwhile, the Indian team has once again failed an ICC Trophy after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of Australia in the WTC 2023 Final. Indian team first leaked huge runs in the first innings & then failed to chase a mammoth target in the second innings suffering a massive 209 runs defeat. Ajinkya Rahane & Shardul Thakur led a fightback in the second innings but the failure of other batters meant India lost the fixture by a huge margin. Indian team now has a point to prove in the ODI World Cup 2023. They will have to win the marquee event & bring home a gleaming ICC Trophy at home after 13 long years.
