Injuries have become a nightmare for the Indian Cricket team as one more player is doubtful for the WTC 2023 final to be held in Oval, London on June 7, 2023. Jaydev Unadkat has earned a call-up to India’s Test squad after one long year. But his comeback seems difficult as he has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury & is doubtful for the WTC final. However as per the sources, there are chances of Unadkat recovering on time & featuring in the marquee event to be played from June 7-12 at the Oval in London.
As per the information given by BCCI & LSG, Unadkat has left the LSG camp & is undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru. He is running against time to get recover on time but his chances of featuring in India’s squad for WTC final haven’t been ruled out. Unadkat sustained a shoulder injury that he sustained during their net session last week & could recover on time until WTC Final. Notably, he is the only left-arm pacer named in the WTC final squad.
Talking about Unadkat’s career accomplishments he has featured in 7 ODIs, two Tests & 10 T20Is till now. His last International appearance came back in December 2022 when he played a Test against Bangladesh. His consistency at the domestic level helped him to get a recall for the crucial WTC final. Back in 2010, Unadkat made a debut in test format back in 2010.
Injury might deplete India’s WTC FInal Squad
Not only Unadkat but there are several injury concerns in WTC Final squad. Two other players of India’s Test squad- Shardul & Umesh are nursing their injuries. Shardul had suffered a niggle & has missed a few IPL fixtures. However, he has recovered from injury & has also played in Thursday’s fixture against SRH.
On the other hand, Umesh Yadav has sustained a hamstring strain & has missed a couple of fixtures. But as per the reports Umesh is recovering from injury & would be fit till the WTC final. However, the final report on the availability of injured players including Unadkat is still awaited & update on their fitness would be received from NCA in a next few days.
