IND vs WI Test: Along with the ODI squad, India has also announced the Squad for their upcoming Test series against West Indies. The 16-man prolific squad sees the inclusion of uncapped players Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal & Mukesh Kumar. While the announced squad will miss the services of Cheteshwar Pujara who has been excluded from the squad due to his ordinary performances in previous Test series. The two-match Test series will mark India’s first Test series in the WTC 2023-25 Cycle.
Pujara’s place in the Playing XI was a matter of debate for some time now as he is 35 years old & has just scored one ton in 52 innings since 2020 at an average of 29.69. While he has scored 11 tons, his average has dropped to 26.31 excluding his scores of 90 & 102* scored in Chittagong Test in December 2022.
Rahane returns, Umesh Yadav exits from IND vs WI Test Series
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami has been rested for the series. Umesh Yadav has been dropped from the series which has paved the way for Navdeep Saini’s inclusion in the announced squad. Navdeep has last played in the Gabba Test which India won with flying colors. Mukesh Kumar has been retained in the Test squad along with Jaydev Unadkat who last played Test series against Bangladesh in 2022. And for wicket-keeping selectors have gone with Ishan Kishan & their first choice wicket-keeper KS Bharat.
India vs West Indies series will begin with two-match Test series against West Indies on July 12 in Dominica followed by the second Test in Trinidad which will be played from July 20.
