IND vs WI: BCCI announced a squad for the ODI series & there comes a call-up for Sanju Samson. With KL Rahul still in rehabilitation due to a thigh injury & Rishabh recovering from a car crash that he sustained in December, Samson is another wicket-keeper option in the announced 17-member squad along with Ishan Kishan.
Ruturaj Gaikwad who had last featured in the ODI series against South Africa in October last year is also a part of the team along with uncapped player Mukesh Kumar. The rest of the players are the ones who have always been a part of the ODI squad. Rohit Sharma will lead the lineup while Hardik will be his deputy.
Mohammed Shami has been rested for the series & thus Mohammed Siraj will spearhead the pace department which also includes Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur, Mukesh, and Umran Malik apart from all-rounder Hardik. Middle-order batter, Suryakumar Yadav who played a crucial role in India’s ODI series win against Australia in March has been retained in the squad. He played a vital role in that series as a middle-order batter in the absence of Shreyas Iyer who was ruled out of the series due to a back injury. Suryakumar ended the series with three first-ball ducks but then bounced back to score runs in the IPL for Mumbai Indians.
Washington Sundar has been excluded from the announced Squad
Washington Sundar who was also a part of the Australian series has been excluded from the squad. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja & Axra Patel are added to the squad as spin-bowling all-rounder options. While Chahal & Kuldeep Yadav are included as frontline spinners.
Samson or Ishan who will be India’s first-choice wicket-keeper batter
If management includes Samson in the Playing XI then the count of his ODI appearance will come to 11. Samson will be included in the lineup if they want a wicketkeeper suited in the middle order. As Ishan Kishan bats up at the higher order. Samson has so far scored 330 ODI runs in 10 innings at an average of 66.00, with two half-centuries.
