IND vs WI 2023: BCCI announces 15-member squad for T20I series & there comes a call-up for Yashasvi Jaiswal & Tilak Varma who have displayed spectacular performances in IPL 2023. This would be their first call-up to the senior team for the shortest format of cricket. Hardik Pandya will lead the team which will lock horns in the five-match T20I series in the Caribbean & the USA. While Suryakumar will be his deputy.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma have been excluded from the T20I squad. The duo hasn’t played in T20Is since India’s exit in the semi-final last year. Even Ravindra Jadeja who helped CSK to win the IPL 2023 final by chasing the target is excluded from the announced squad. This is the first team chosen by the selection committee headed by the newly appointed chairman, Ajit Agarkar. And the new selection panel & chairman has executed the idea of naming the players who can hit big runs right from the first ball of the innings. And the new inclusions are a sheer example of power-hitting.
Yashaswi Jaiswal & Tilak Verma the new inclusions in India’s T20I Squad
Yashaswi Jaiswal who is known for smashing maximums & boundaries right from the first ball of the over in IPL 2023 has made a cut into the squad. While Varma who averages almost 40 from 47 T20Is without compromising on a strike rate of 142.54 is another inclusion to the squad. Hardik Pandya & Shubman Gill are the rescuers if anything goes wrong as Agarkar & his panel have put their faith in the lineup that smashes fours & sixes on every ball they face. But there comes a surprise as Rinku Singh who himself became a brand after smashing five consecutive sixes during IPL 2023 too has been excluded from the announced squad.
India last played the T20I series in February 2023 against New Zealand. Notably, seven members of that squad have been sidelined from the India series that is Jitesh Sharma, Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Hooda, and Washington Sundar
