IND vs AFG: The riveting cricketing action at the Indian Premier League (IPL) has reached the penultimate stage and is set to conclude this weekend. Chennai Super Kings have also reached the finals whereas Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans will battle it out in the Qualifiers to seal a final berth tonight.
Post the conclusion of the IPL, Indian cricket fans need not worry as a range of exciting international fixtures are scheduled to take place. The much anticipated final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 is set to take place on June 7 at the Oval in London. India will lock horns against Australia to clinch the Test mace and attain supremacy.
After the World Test Championship Final, the Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) has planned a home white-ball series against Afghanistan. The series was reportedly on the termination note in view of the hectic international schedule of the Indian cricketers. However, the BCCI has now planned to pitch in a second XI team to battle it out against the emerging Asian giants.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Mohammed Shami will be rested for IND vs AFG Series
Notably, prominent and senior Indian cricketers will likely be rested for the Afghanistan series. This includes skipper Rohit Sharma, ace batsman Virat Kohli, paceman Mohammed Shami and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Many factors are to be considered before hosting the Afghanistan series. The BCCI is also on the verge of curtailing the series since the only available window for the event is June 20 to June 30.
Another interesting topic is the media rights for broadcasting Indian home fixtures. Currently, the rights awarded to Star Sports have expired and the BCCI will likely float a tender inviting applications for delegating the sponsorship rights. An interim broadcaster will likely be elected as the BCCI plans to start the new contract from the Australian series.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) President Mirwais Ashraf is set to visit India for the upcoming final of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Discussions for the series and the much-controversial Asia Cup 2023 will likely take place.
