It seems like the wait for fans will end soon as ICC is all set to release the schedule of the ODI World Cup 2023. As per the latest development, the board will release the schedule of the marquee event on June 27, just 100 days before the 5th of October when the World Cup will begin.
The tension between BCCI & PCB has resulted in the delay in the announcement of the schedule. The two governing bodies indulged in a cold war previously due to Asia Cup 2023 hosting rights & later due to issues in venues for ODI World Cup 2023. PCB is yet to send their approval for the draft schedule which has been circulated by the ICC.
“We have written to the ICC that we can’t give approval or disapproval to this [World Cup schedule]. It’s our government who has to decide, just like when it comes to India, it’s their government that decides when they go to play,” said Najam Sethi who stepped down from his role of interim Chairman.
PCB has many issues with the drafted schedule of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023
The PCB has made it clear that they can send their approval once their Government gives a nod to play on the match venues. The PCB made it clear they won’t play against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad due to safety issues & demanded to shift the venue. Further, PCB also said that they are not comfortable facing & playing against a heavily spin-friendly track in Chennai & thus they want to face Afghanistan in Bengaluru & Australia in Chennai. But the BCCI & ICC rejected their demand & said that the venues cant be changed. These objections & demands for changes in venues have resulted in the release of the ICC World Cup 2023 Schedule. Now, as soon as the clearance is sent by the PCB, the ICC will release the schedule, and 27th June looks like the final date for the release in the schedule.
