Cricket News India – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged Indian local umpire Jatin Kashyap for breaching the Anti-Corruption Code. Jatin Kashyap has 14 days to respond to the charges framed against him from 19th May that related to an international game back in 2022.
It is learned that Jatin Kashyap was charged with attempting to corrupt the players participating in the Asia Cup 2022 Qualifiers in Oman. Kashyap is based in Bathinda city of India’s Punjab State. The ICC will carry out a thorough investigation into the misdoings of Kashyap in the alleged incident.
Jatin Kashyap is an Indian local umpire. He is not named on ICC’s Panel of match officials and has not officiated any international match in his career. Kashyap was also not officiating any game in Asia Cup 2022 Qualifiers in Oman but the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Branch had the right to launch an investigation since it was an international game.
ICC has asked Indian Local Authorities to carry Investigation against Kashyap
The ICC has released a detailed statement on the investigation against Kashyap. ICC has also sought the help of Indian local authorities to carry out their investigation. It is believed that Kashyap has been charged with breaching articles 2.4.6 and 2.4.7 of the Anti-Corruption Code.
The Articles 2.4.6 and 2.4.7 of ICC state that, Specifically, they deal with “failing or refusing, without compelling justification, to cooperate with the Anti-Corruption Unit’s (ACU) investigation in relation to possible Corrupt Conduct under the Code, including (without limitation) failing to provide accurately and completely any information and/or documentation requested by the ACU (whether as part of a formal Demand pursuant to Article 4.3 or otherwise as part of such investigation)” and “obstructing or delaying the ACU’s investigations.”
Jatin Kashyap will now have to provide an adequate justification to ICC in order to get rid of the charges. The BCCI has not released any statement in accordance with the incident. Kashyap’s investigation will be independent and not under the jurisdiction of BCCI since he is not an official umpire. The ICC will soon release further details of the demeaning incident for Jatin Kashyap.
