The 62nd match of IPL 2023 was a nerve-wrenching affair for cricket fans as defending champions displayed a scintillating show to outclass Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday, May 15. Defending Champions registered a gleaming win over SRH on the back of prolific performances from Shubman Gill & Mohammed Shami.
Gill’s brilliant ton in the first innings laid the foundation for the Titans massive win while Mohammed Shami’s fiery bowling spell helped them to restrict SRH to 154 runs target registering 34 runs win over the Orange Army. Mohammed Shami rattled Hyderabad’s batting order by scalping early wickets in the powerplay overs dismissing Anmolpreet Singh, Aiden Markram, and Rahul Tripathi. Shami’s terrific gameplay didn’t stop here as he scalped his fourth wicket by dismissing dangerous-looking Heinrich Klaasen. The South African batter was batting at 64 runs off 44 balls when Klaasen sent him packing.
After the conclusion of the fixture in the post-match presentation, Shastri asked Shami to reveal the secret behind his success & about his food intake to which he replied, “Gujarat mein hu, mera khana nahi milega na.” But soon he ensured that he didn’t hurt the sentiments of the home crowd by saying that though he didn’t get the food he prefers, he is still enjoying the flavors of Gujarati cuisine.
In Gujarat’s emphatic 34-run win Shami made a huge contribution by returning with figures of 4-21 in his spell of four overs. His astounding spell helped him to reclaim the purple cap as he has 23 wickets on his name in 13 fixtures. Despite being tied with Rashid Khan he is the current holder of the purple cap due to a better economy rate.
