South African cricketer George Linde has made the mutual decision to part ways with Kent County Cricket Club in order to explore franchise opportunities overseas, according to an official confirmation from the club.
Linde, a versatile all-rounder aged 31, joined Kent ahead of the 2022 season and enjoyed a two-year stint with the club. During his time at Kent, he made 38 appearances, impressing with both bat and ball. He scored a total of 622 runs and took 42 wickets, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Linde played a crucial role in Kent’s triumph in the One-Day Cup in 2022.
Having become a father earlier this year, Linde experienced a delayed start to the season. While he actively participated in Kent’s T20 Blast campaign, he did not feature in the County Championship Division 1. With Linde’s departure, Kent has only one overseas player, the young pace sensation from India, Arshdeep Singh.
In expressing his departure, Linde conveyed his appreciation to his teammates, coaching staff, and the club’s supporters for their unwavering support throughout his time at Kent. He also explained that he hasn’t had many opportunities to play four-day cricket this year and has therefore opted to pursue more franchise cricket. Linde concluded his statement by wishing the club the best for the remainder of the season and for the future.

“I would like to express my gratitude to everyone at Kent – my teammates, coaches, staff, members, and supporters – for making me feel like a part of the Kent Cricket family during my time here,” stated Linde.
“Unfortunately, I haven’t had many chances to play in the four-day format this year, so I have made the decision to focus on playing more franchise cricket. I wish the club all the best for the rest of the season and beyond,” he added.
Paul Downton, Kent’s Director of Cricket, extended his appreciation to Linde for his contributions over the past two seasons.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to George for his valuable services during his time at Kent, and we wish him all the best for his future endeavors,” remarked Downton.

The club will now adjust its team composition with a single overseas player as they continue their campaign in various domestic competitions.
