Gautam Gambhir believes that Virat Kohli hasn’t won any big trophies as a captain of the Indian Cricket team & still “has a lot to achieve”.
Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir said that the Indian Skipper Kohli has a lot to achieve pointing the fact that Kohli is yet to win a major trophy. Since the last few years, Kohli has been phenomenal with his bat breaking several records along the way. He has also shown strong aggressive leadership with impressive achievements in his bag. However, the Indian skipper failed to lead his team in the ICC tournament in his three years tenure of captaincy.
Talking about Kohli’s failure to win a major trophy Gautam Gambhir said, “In a team sport, you can keep scoring your own runs. There are people like Brian Lara, who’s got so many runs, you’ve got people like Jacques Kallis, who have won nothing”.
“To be honest Virat Kohli has won nothing at the moment as a leader”, said Gambhir. “He has a lot to achieve. He can keep scoring his own runs, but for me, I think in a team sport, till the time you don’t win the big trophies, you will never be able to fulfill your entire career,” he added.
Gautam Gambhir & Kohli were a part of India’s World Cup Winning Squad in 2011. They even shared a crucial 83 run stand in the finals against Sri Lanka.
Kohli has led India to the World Cup Semi-Finals in 2019 & the final of the Champions Trophy in 2017. As a part of the RCB franchise in the IPL, Kohli has managed his team to win a runners up spot.
