The announcement of the much-anticipated schedule of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is around the corner as we expect the Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) to release it anytime soon. The ICC and BCCI are in continuous deliberations to finalize the venues taking into consideration various concerns. The BCCI will likely host a brief lunch event to declare the same. Defending champions England will likely battle it out against New Zealand in the World Cup opening clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5. Notably, Ahmedabad will also host the heavyweight final match on November 19.
Hosts India will kickstart their 2023 World Cup campaign against the mighty Australians. The fixture against the Kangaroos will likely be conducted in Chennai. India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on October 15 which will be a blockbuster Sunday.
BCCI took approval from participating nations for finalizing ICC World Cup 2023 Schedule
The BCCI has reportedly sought formal approval from all the participating nations for the finalization of the schedule. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has raised a concern to the ICC displaying their disapproval to play any fixtures at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India and Pakistan would have likely faced off at the world’s largest cricket stadium in Motera but PCB’s objection might force BCCI to change the venue. PCB Chief Najam Sethi had traveled to Dubai and submitted a formal plea. This comes ahead of the much controversial Asia Cup hosting rights that are believed to be stripped from Pakistan and assigned to Sri Lanka.
As per the tentative schedule, Pakistan was scheduled to play its World Cup games at Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore. This is due to security concerns and a highly sporting crowd in southern India.
A total of 48 games will be conducted in the span of 45 Days. India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh have already qualified for the event whereas Ireland and South Africa are in a battle for the eighth position. The others will play the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe scheduled in July.
