England Women’s batter, Emily Windsor became the first female cricketer to play 100 matches for Hampshire County Club. In her 100th fixture, she played a stupendous knock of unbeaten 69 runs in the final two fixtures of the County Championship league stage fixtures. Her special knock helped Hampshire Club to move up to the top spot in their group’s Points table.
Currently positioned in group five of the Women’s County T20 Championship, Hampshire is occupying first place at the table with 16 points in six matches. They are followed by Sussex who have 14 points in the kitty, with Berkshire CCC and Bucks Cricket in third and fourth place with eight and two points, respectively.
By occupying a top position at the Points table, Hampshire will now march into the finals of County Championship 2023-24 slated to be played in Hove on Sunday, May 14. Windsor has been backed by Hampshire at every point of life since he joined the club as a nine-year-old. Since making her debut in County Cricket in 2013 she led the team for the first time in 2021. With the finals slated to be played on May 14, the rest of the group’s five fixtures would be played at the 1st Central County Ground in Hove.
On the prestigious occasion of completing 100 fixtures for Hampshire, the franchise presented Windsor with a special jersey with No 100 on the back of the jersey. After achieving this remarkable feat Windsor scope about her experience with the franchise.
It’s a great honor to become the first women’s player to reach 100 caps for Hampshire. This is a club I have supported and loved playing for since I was nine years old. Never did I think I would play for the first team this many times. To also now have the privilege to captain the side is a dream come true,” Windsor was quoted as saying by The News.
Windsor has been an Integral Part of the Southern Vipers Franchise
For the unversed, Emily Windsor has represented the Southern Vipers team who are currently the champions of the T20 format. One of the best performers of the team, Windsor has scored 288 runs at 50-over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. She maintained such a record despite returning from a recent hip injury.
