ECB has released an Official Statement to provide an update on James Anderson’s injury ahead of Ashes 2023. For the unversed, Anderson suffered a mild strain to his right groin during Lancashire’s fixture against Somerset at Emirates Old Trafford. The ECB confirmed the development through its Official Statement.
Anderson was bowling his pell when a blow to his groin forced him out of the field. He didn’t risk his groin injury & didn’t participate in the rest of the three days of the County Championship 2023 division one fixture. After the incident, ECB took Anderson for scans which further revealed that it was a mild strain.
The ECB also stated that James Anderson’s injury nature will be assessed prior to their fixture against Ireland which will begin at Lord’s on Thursday, June 1. The fixture between Lancashire & Somerset turned into a deadlock on the fourth day.
England misses the services of their key players
England is reeling with their key players out of the national team due to their respective injuries. Their prolific pacer Olly Stone has been sidelined from the squad due to a hamstring injury. While Archer who returned home in the middle of IPL 2023 due to his longstanding elbow injury too will stay out of action for a few days. ECB will assess Archer’s injury status & would provide an update about the same through an Official Statement.
England’s next assignment is against Ireland, read to know more about it
England will next lock horns with Ireland in a one-off Test & the selection committee is yet to announce the squad for the same. Whether Anderson who would become fit by the time will be included in the one-off Test against Ireland or will be rested so that he can stay fit for the crucial Ashes 2023 is yet to be seen.
After the Ireland Test, England will play five-match Test series against Australia which will be played from June 16 to July 31. England management will hope that Anderson gets fit on time so that he can participate in the crucial Test Series against arch-rivals Australia.
