There comes a relief for England’s Test Team Coach Brendon McCullum. He has received a clean chit from ECB over his association with 22Bet India betting company. Earlier MCCullum came under scanner after his appearance in 22Bet India YouTube advertisements & posts on social media promoting betting in the IPL. Notably, McCullum signed a deal with the Cyris registered 22bet India Company back on November 22. However, advertisements featuring McCullum have come into the limelight, particularly in New Zealand.
“The IPL is coming, and I think all cricket fans are excited for this big event. My friends at 22Bet are ready to make your IPL experience even more fascinating. 22Bet India guarantees the best odds,” McCullum was seen encouraging betting in an advert posted on Facebook.
After the circulation of the advertisement, New Zealand’s Problem Gambling Foundation filed an Official Complaint in the country’s Department of Internal Affairs over the misleading advertisements. The DIA cell confirmed that the company is deceptive as they are not a registered company nor they are licensed or regulated in New Zealand by the DIA.
“Discussions have been ongoing with Brendon over the last few days, and the matter has been considered from an employer and regulator perspective. We can confirm that no further action will be taken,” the ECB confirmed and was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Brendon McCullum will join the England Test team ahead of Ireland Test
Brendon McCullum joined ECB as England’s red ball coach back in May 2022 with Ben Stokes stepping up as England’s Test team’s new Captain. Under the new coaching & leadership set up England’s Test team rose back to glory winning 10 out of 10 Tests they have played. Their aggressive brand of cricket helped them to earn the title of ‘Bazball team’.
Currently, Brendon McCullum is in New Zealand & will return to the UK before their one-off Test against Ireland. England is slated to play their first test of home summer against Ireland at Lord’s beginning on June 1. After the conclusion of the one-off Test England will gear up for the Ashes 2023 series against Australia slate to be played from June 16.
